Welcome to this brief meditation for breath awareness. Begin by finding a comfortable position. You might sit up tall with your feet on the floor, or lie down. Allow your hands to rest softly at your sides. When you feel ready, gently close your eyes, or simply lower your gaze.
Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose, filling your lungs entirely.
And gently release the air out through your mouth with a soft sigh. Allow your shoulders to drop away from your ears.
Allow your breathing to return to its natural rhythm. There is no need to control the breath right now. Simply let your body breathe as it wants to. You are shifting from doing into a state of just being.
Bring your attention to the physical sensation of the breath entering and leaving your body. Notice where you feel the breath most clearly. It might be the cool air passing through your nostrils, the rise and fall of your chest, or the expansion of your belly.
Wherever the sensation is strongest, let your mind rest there. Imagine this spot is an anchor, holding you steady in the present moment. Observe the inhale, the slight pause at the top, the exhale, and the quiet space before the next breath begins.
As you observe, you will notice your mind starting to wander. This is completely natural. When you realize your attention has drifted away, simply acknowledge where it went without any judgment.
Gently but firmly guide your focus back to the physical sensation of your breath. Return to the anchor. One breath in, one breath out.
Every time you bring your attention back, you are strengthening your mindfulness. You are training your mind to be here, right now, fully awake to your own life. Feel the comfort in knowing there is nowhere else you need to be and nothing else you need to do in this exact moment. Just you and your breath.
Notice the subtle qualities of the air. Feel how it is slightly cooler as it enters your body, and slightly warmer as it leaves. Observe the sound of your own breathing. Let each exhale relax your muscles a little bit more, melting away any tension in your jaw, your neck, and your shoulders.
Rest in this calm awareness, riding the gentle waves of your breath.
As we draw this practice to a close, begin to notice the space around you. Feel the weight of your body resting on the surface beneath you. Notice the points of contact between you and the ground.
As we finish, take one more deep, intentional breath in through your nose, expanding your chest fully and filling yourself with fresh, vibrant energy.
Exhale completely. Wiggle your fingers and your toes. When you feel ready, slowly open your eyes and bring this peaceful sense of presence with you into the rest of your day.
