Welcome to this body scan practice designed to help you reconnect with your physical self and gently release any tension you may be carrying. Find a comfortable position, either sitting upright or lying down on your back. Allow your arms to rest naturally beside you, and when you feel ready, softly close your eyes.
Begin by bringing your awareness to your breathing. You do not need to change how you breathe. Simply feel the air moving in through your nose, expanding your chest, and flowing back out.
With every exhale, allow your body to settle a little deeper into the surface beneath you. Feel yourself becoming fully present in this moment.
Now, shift your focus down to your feet. Notice your toes, your soles, and your heels. You might feel warmth, tingling, or perhaps quiet heaviness. If you notice any tightness here, imagine sending a soft, gentle breath right into your feet, inviting them to soften and relax.
Let this feeling of relaxation travel upward into your ankles, calves, and knees. Release any effort holding these muscle groups together. Let your lower legs become heavy and completely still.
Bring your attention into your thighs, hips, and pelvic region. We often carry unneeded tension in these large areas without realizing it. Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe out, allow your hips to sink open and rest.
Move your focus up into your belly and lower back. Feel the subtle rise and fall of your stomach with each cycle of breath. If your belly feels tight or guarded, gently allow it to soften. Feel the muscles along your spine release their grip, spreading outward like ripples on quiet water.
Now guide your awareness into your chest and heart space. Notice the natural rhythm of your breath as your chest expands and contracts. Let go of any tightness resting here.
Soften your shoulders. Drop them down and away from your ears. Allow this release to stream down through your upper arms, elbows, forearms, wrists, and into the palms of your hands and fingertips. Your arms are resting heavily now, totally relaxed.
Bring your focus to your neck, throat, and jaw. Unclench your teeth and allow your jaw to loosen slightly. Smooth out your forehead and relax the tiny muscles around your eyes. Let your entire face become calm and peaceful.
Take a moment to feel your body as one complete, connected whole. Feel the soothing flow of breath moving through you, sweeping away any lingering tightness and leaving only space and ease. Rest here in this quiet awareness.
Slowly begin to deepen your breath. Feel the fresh energy flowing back into your body with every slow inhalation.
Gently wiggle your fingers and your toes, bringing movement back to your physical form.
When you feel ready, slowly open your eyes, carrying this calm, connected presence into the rest of your day.
