Welcome to this body scan meditation. Find a comfortable position, either sitting upright in a chair or lying down flat on your back. Allow your arms to rest naturally at your sides, with your palms turned upward or resting softly in your lap. When you feel ready, gently close your eyes, or maintain a soft, unfocused gaze toward the floor in front of you.
Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose, filling your chest and stomach completely. Exhale fully through your mouth with a soft, releasing sigh.
Feel the weight of your body supported by the surface beneath you. Allow your mind to quiet down as you bring your full awareness into this present moment. There is nowhere else you need to be and nothing else you need to do right now.
Begin by shifting your attention all the way down to your feet. Notice your toes, the arches of your feet, and your heels. You do not need to change anything. Simply feel whatever sensations are present, whether it is warmth, coolness, tingling, or stillness. Soften any tightness you find here.
Now let that gentle awareness move upward through your ankles, into your calves, and across your knees. Feel your thighs resting heavily against the ground. With every breath out, imagine releasing any physical tension held in your legs, letting them sink deeper into total relaxation.
Bring your attention into your hips, your pelvis, and your lower back. This is an area where we often hold hidden strain and tiredness. Take a deep, soothing breath into your lower belly. As you exhale, soften your stomach muscles and let your lower back release its grip.
Slowly move your focus up along your spine, breathing space into your upper back, your ribs, and your chest. Notice the gentle, rhythmic rise and fall of your chest with every breath you take. Allow your shoulder blades to settle downward, relaxing away from your ears. Feel the heavy burden lifting off your shoulders.
Let this softening sensation drift down through your arms, passing your elbows, your wrists, and flowing into your hands and fingertips. Allow your fingers to curl naturally and loosen completely.
Guide your attention up to your neck and throat. Unclench your jaw, leaving a tiny space between your teeth. Soften the delicate muscles around your mouth, your cheeks, and your eyes. Smooth out any tightness across your forehead and temple areas.
Now expand your awareness to feel your entire body at once, resting in complete stillness, safety, and ease. From the crown of your head all the way down to the tips of your toes, feel connected, warm, and deeply relaxed.
Take one more deep, nourishing breath in, filling your whole body with fresh vitality.
Exhale fully, letting go of any remaining tension or thoughts you no longer need to carry.
When you feel ready, begin to bring gentle movement back into your body by wiggling your fingers and toes. Take a moment to appreciate this quiet feeling, and slowly open your eyes.
