Welcome to this body scan practice. Take a moment to find a comfortable position, sitting or lying down. Allow your eyes to gently close, or soften your gaze toward the floor.
Bring your awareness to your breathing. You do not need to change anything. Just notice the natural rhythm of your breath as it flows in and out. Feel your belly rise with each inhale, and fall with each exhale.
Now, shift your focus down to your feet. Feel them making contact with the surface beneath you. Notice any sensations here. Perhaps you feel warmth, tingling, or cool air against your skin. If you notice any tightness in your toes or arches, invite those muscles to soften. Let go of any effort in your feet.
Slowly move your attention up into your lower legs, your calves, and your knees. Feel the weight of your legs supported by the floor or chair. Notice if you are holding any hidden tension here. As you breathe out, allow your lower legs to completely relax.
Bring your awareness into your thighs and hips. This area often holds stress without us realizing it. Feel the weight of your hips resting heavily. Inhale deeply into this space, and as you exhale, release any gripping or tightness. Let your thighs settle and soften.
Now, bring your attention to your lower back and abdomen. Feel the gentle motion of your stomach with every breath. Notice any sensation in your spine. Allow your belly to become soft and relaxed. With each exhale, let any tension melt away into the ground beneath you.
Shift your focus higher, into your chest and upper back. Notice your ribcage expanding with every breath. If your shoulders are drawn up toward your ears, gently allow them to drop down and settle. Feel your shoulders melt back and down, releasing the weight of the day.
Move your awareness down through your arms, past your elbows, into your wrists, hands, and fingers. Let your hands rest naturally, completely uncurled and effortless. Feel the space between your fingers. Release all tightness.
Now, bring your attention up to your neck and throat. Let your jaw unclamp, creating a small space between your teeth. Soften the muscles around your mouth, your cheekbones, and your eyes. Smooth out your forehead and relax your scalp. Allow your whole face to be completely still and soft.
Now, expand your awareness to feel your entire body as one whole system. From the top of your head to the tips of your toes. Rest here in this feeling of complete stillness and ease. You are present, relaxed, and fully connected to your body.
Take one more deep breath, breathing in energy, and exhaling any remaining stress.
When you feel ready, gently wiggle your fingers and toes. Open your eyes, bringing this calm and quiet presence into the rest of your day.
