Welcome to this practice of breath awareness. Please find a comfortable position, either sitting upright or lying down. Allow your hands to rest gently wherever they feel natural. When you are ready, gently close your eyes, letting go of the visual world around you.

Take a moment to feel the weight of your body resting on the surface beneath you. Notice the points of contact. You are fully supported right here in this moment.

Now, gently bring your attention to the natural rhythm of your breathing. There is no need to change your breath or force it to be deeper. Simply observe it exactly as it is.

Notice where you feel the breath most clearly in your body. It might be the cool air entering your nostrils. It might be the gentle rise and fall of your chest, or the expansion of your belly.

Notice the subtle details of your current breath. Pay attention to the temperature of the air. Notice the texture of the breath. Is it smooth, or is it shallow? Just observe with quiet curiosity.

Choose one of these areas to be your anchor. Focus your full attention on this single point of sensation. Follow the journey of a single breath from the very beginning of the inhale to the very end of the exhale. Notice the slight pause between each breath before the next cycle begins.

As you observe your breath, you will likely notice that your mind begins to wander. This is completely normal. Minds are designed to think. When your attention drifts to thoughts or sounds, simply acknowledge where it went.

Then, with kindness and without self criticism, gently guide your focus back to your anchor. Return to the physical sensation of breathing.

Inhale, noticing the breath flowing in. Exhale, noticing the breath flowing out. You are not trying to get anywhere. You are simply practicing being present with each breath as it happens.

Feel the steady rhythm of your breathing as a constant companion. It is an anchor that is always available to you, bringing you back to the present moment whenever you feel scattered or overwhelmed.

If your mind has wandered again, gently unhook from those thoughts. Come back to the physical feeling of your body breathing. Right here. Right now.

As we bring this meditation to a close, take a moment to appreciate the stillness you have cultivated. Acknowledge the time you dedicated to nurturing your well being today.

Gradually expand your awareness outward. Notice the space around you. Feel the surface beneath you once again. You can invite some gentle movement into your fingers and toes. Whenever you feel ready, slowly open your eyes, bringing this sense of grounded awareness with you into the rest of your day. Thank yourself for being present.
