Welcome to this moment of stillness. Find a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down. Allow your body to settle, releasing any tension you might be holding.
Gently close your eyes, or soften your gaze if that feels more comfortable.
Begin to bring your awareness to your breath. No need to change it, just notice it.
Observe the natural rhythm of your inhalation.
And the natural rhythm of your exhalation.
Feel the breath as it enters your nostrils.
Notice the subtle sensation of the air. Is it cool or warm?
Follow the breath as it travels down into your lungs.
Feel your chest or your belly rise gently with each inhale.
And then fall with each exhale.
There is nothing you need to do right now, nowhere you need to be, except here. With this breath.
Allow the gentle rise and fall of your breath to become your anchor. A steady point in the midst of whatever else is happening.
If your mind begins to wander, as minds naturally do, that's perfectly okay. It's part of the process.
Simply notice where your thoughts have gone.
And then, with kindness and without judgment, gently guide your awareness back to the sensation of your breath.
Back to the feeling of the air entering.
And leaving your body.
Feel the air filling your lungs, providing life and energy.
And feel the release as you exhale, letting go.
Notice the stillness that can exist between each inhale and exhale. A tiny pause.
A moment of pure presence.
Continue to breathe, simply observing. Allowing each breath to be as it is.
Perhaps you notice a sense of calm settling over you. Or perhaps you notice something else entirely. Whatever you are experiencing is valid.
Let the breath wash over you, like a gentle wave. In... and out.
In... and out.
Each breath is an opportunity to return to this present moment.
Feel the support of the surface beneath you, holding you. You are safe. You are supported.
As this meditation draws to a close, take a slightly deeper breath.
And as you exhale, begin to notice the sounds around you.
Wiggle your fingers and your toes.
When you feel ready, gently open your eyes. Carry this sense of calm and present awareness with you into the rest of your day.
