Welcome. Find a comfortable position. You can be seated or lying down, whatever feels most supportive for you in this moment. Allow your eyes to gently close, or soften your gaze if that feels better.
Begin by bringing your awareness to your breath. Simply notice the natural rhythm of your inhale and your exhale. There's no need to change anything. Just observe.
Feel the air entering your nostrils, cool and fresh. And feel it leaving your body, a little warmer.
As you continue to breathe, let go of any tension you might be holding in your body. Notice your shoulders. See if you can allow them to soften, to drop away from your ears.
Release any tightness in your jaw. Let your tongue rest gently in your mouth.
Allow your forehead to smooth. Release any furrowing.
Now, bring your attention to the space within your mind. Imagine it like a vast, clear sky. Sometimes there are clouds that drift by, thoughts, worries, plans.
But the sky itself remains, unchanging, open, and vast. Your mind is like this sky. These thoughts are like clouds. They come, and they go.
For this meditation, we are not trying to get rid of the clouds. We are simply learning to observe them without getting caught up in them. Notice the next thought that arises. Acknowledge it.
Gently label it if you wish – perhaps "planning," "remembering," or "worrying." And then, as gently as you can, escort that thought back to the vast sky of your mind.
Allow it to drift away. And return your awareness to the steady, gentle rhythm of your breath.
Each inhale is a moment of presence. Each exhale is a release.
If your mind wanders, and it will, that's perfectly okay. It's part of the process. Simply notice where it went, without judgment, and gently guide your awareness back to your breath. Back to the open sky.
Imagine a beam of light, strong and steady, shining down into your mind, illuminating a clear path. This light represents your focus.
With each breath, allow this light to grow brighter, more defined. Feel it clearing away any mental fog.
You are cultivating a sense of mental stillness, a deep well of clarity within you.
Notice the sensation of your breath in your body. The rise and fall of your chest or abdomen.
Allow yourself to feel grounded and present, right here, right now.
There is no need to strive, no need to force anything. Simply allow. Allow the clarity to emerge naturally.
As we begin to bring this meditation to a close, take a moment to appreciate this space of stillness you have created for yourself. Carry this sense of focus and clarity with you into the rest of your day.
When you are ready, begin to deepen your breath. Wiggle your fingers and toes. Gently reawaken your body.
And when you feel ready, slowly open your eyes.
