Welcome to this guided meditation for releasing tension and finding deep calm.
Find a comfortable position, either sitting upright with your spine long and supported, or lying down on your back. Allow your body to settle into this space.
Gently close your eyes, or soften your gaze, allowing your eyelids to become heavy.
Begin by bringing your awareness to your breath. Notice the natural rhythm of your inhale and exhale. There's no need to change anything, just observe.
Feel the air entering your nostrils, perhaps cool as it comes in, and slightly warmer as it leaves.
Follow the path of your breath as it travels down into your lungs, and then back out again.
With each exhale, imagine you are releasing a small amount of tension from your body.
Let's begin by focusing on the sensations in your feet. Notice any tightness or holding.
With your next exhale, imagine that tension melting away from your toes, your soles, your heels.
Allow your feet to feel heavy and relaxed.
Now, bring your awareness up to your ankles and your calves. Notice what you feel there.
As you breathe out, let go of any gripping or stiffness. Imagine a wave of relaxation flowing through your lower legs, soothing and releasing.
Feel your calves becoming soft and yielding.
Move your attention to your knees and your thighs. Often, we hold a lot of unconscious tension here.
On your next exhale, consciously allow your thigh muscles to relax. Let them sink down, becoming heavy and at ease.
Feel the release spreading through your hamstrings and quadriceps.
Now, bring your awareness to your hips and your lower back. This is another area where tension can accumulate.
As you exhale, soften your hips. Imagine any tightness in your lower back gently unraveling, like a tight knot being loosened.
Allow your pelvis to feel completely supported and relaxed.
Bring your attention to your abdomen and your chest. Notice the gentle rise and fall with each breath.
With your exhale, release any holding in your belly. Allow your diaphragm to move freely.
Feel your chest opening slightly, inviting more ease.
Now, move your awareness to your shoulders, your arms, and your hands.
Let your shoulders drop away from your ears. Imagine any burdens you might be carrying being lifted.
Allow your arms to feel heavy and limp by your sides.
Feel your hands and fingers softening, releasing any clenching.
Bring your attention to your neck and your throat. Often, we hold tension here, from speaking or from unspoken words.
With each exhale, gently release the muscles in your neck. Allow your head to feel comfortably supported.
Soften your throat, letting go of any constriction.
Finally, bring your awareness to your face and your head. Soften your jaw, letting your teeth part slightly.
Relax the muscles around your eyes, your forehead, and your scalp. Imagine a smooth, calm surface.
Now, take a moment to scan your entire body. Notice any areas that still feel held.
With your next few breaths, send waves of calm and relaxation to those areas, inviting them to soften and release.
Feel the overall sense of deep relaxation pervading your entire being. You are at peace. You are calm.
Stay with this feeling of gentle ease for a few more moments, simply breathing and being.
When you feel ready, you can gently begin to wiggle your fingers and toes, bringing a little movement back into your body.
Slowly, you can begin to open your eyes, carrying this sense of deep calm with you.
