Welcome. Find a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down. Allow your body to settle. Soften your gaze, or gently close your eyes if that feels right for you.
Begin by bringing your awareness to your breath. You don't need to change it in any way. Simply notice the gentle rise and fall of your chest or abdomen. The cool air entering your nostrils, and the warm air leaving.
Allow your breath to be a gentle anchor, bringing you into this present moment. Notice the sensations in your body. The points of contact with the surface beneath you. The feeling of the air on your skin.
Now, bring to mind someone you care about deeply. Someone who brings you joy, someone you feel a natural warmth and affection for. Perhaps a loved one, a dear friend, or even a pet.
Picture them in your mind's eye. See their face, hear their voice. Feel the warmth that arises within you when you think of them.
Silently, repeat these phrases to yourself, directing them towards this person. May you be filled with loving-kindness. May you be well. May you be peaceful and at ease. May you be happy.
Allow these words to resonate. Feel the sincerity of your intention. Notice any warmth, any softening that happens within your chest as you offer these blessings.
Now, gradually broaden this feeling of loving-kindness. Bring to mind someone you know, perhaps an acquaintance, someone you interact with regularly but don't have a deep personal connection with.
See them in your mind. And extend the same wishes to them. May you be filled with loving-kindness. May you be well. May you be peaceful and at ease. May you be happy.
Notice if this feels different from the first person. There's no right or wrong way to feel. Simply observe.
Now, let's expand this circle even further. Bring to mind someone with whom you have a more challenging relationship. Someone who evokes some difficulty or discomfort for you.
This can be the most challenging part, so be gentle with yourself. If it feels too difficult, you can always return to the first person, or simply rest in the breath.
If you are ready, picture this person. And with as much sincerity as you can muster, offer them these wishes. May you be filled with loving-kindness. May you be well. May you be peaceful and at ease. May you be happy.
Allow the intention to be there, even if the feeling isn't fully present. The act of offering is powerful in itself.
Finally, bring your awareness back to yourself. Imagine a warm, gentle light filling your own heart. And offer these same wishes to yourself. May I be filled with loving-kindness. May I be well. May I be peaceful and at ease. May I be happy.
Bask in this feeling of warmth and acceptance. You are deserving of all these blessings.
Take a few more moments to simply be with yourself, breathing gently. When you feel ready, begin to bring your awareness back to the room. Wiggle your fingers and toes. And when you're ready, slowly open your eyes.
